Primark and Greenwashing in the Fashion Industry

Primark: the retailer we all know (but don’t necessarily love). For many of us, the store holds a strange sense of nostalgia. Being let out on a Saturday afternoon aged 13, armed with £5 and a bus ticket in our purses, we would return home arms laden with earrings, scarves, and bags – all guaranteed to break within a week. This feeling of nostalgia, however, is tainted as with age comes knowledge. Learning of the controversy surrounding Primark (namely, it being a haven of unethical and unsustainable practices) my trips there became fewer and further between, eventually culminating in an…

Interview: Emily of Zola Amour

We had a chat with Emily Evans who started up sustainable fashion brand Zola Amour in 2016. Concious Essentials for A Perfect Picnic

Nothing beats something as simple as a traditional summer picnic. When the sun is shining, grab your friends and your favourite food and head down to your nearest open space. Of course, there are a few items that are undoubtedly classed as the ‘classic essentials’ in the eyes of the British picnicking population. A tartan blanket, a wicker basket, Pimms, and a forecast of cloudy with a chance of rain.. and that’s just the start. It’s one thing to ensure you have everything you need to create the perfect picnic-but it’s another thing entirely to ensure your spread is ethical…

Invest in the Wardrobe Staples: White Trainers

As summer looms upon us (or is that a rain cloud?) so too does the prospect of a new wardrobe. Sandals are, of course, a go-to for all beachy, sunny fun. Worn with dresses or smart trousers, they instantly provide an edgy sense of casual cool…

What is Fashion Revolution Week?

Who made my clothes? A seemingly simple question, but one that often doesn’t cross people’s minds. Maybe the thrill of handing over your debit card for tonight’s party-wear doesn’t leave room for such practical thoughts. Maybe some people just don’t care. Or maybe in our current culture of fast fashion, we’re not encouraged to think about such a fundamental question. As the ‘Behind the Barcode’ report showed, out of 219 of the biggest fashion brands, only half knew where and by whom their clothes were being made. So how are we, the customer, meant to care when those selling the…

Revival’s Favourite Chocolate Easter Eggs With a Conscience

The guilt we feel after a weekend of munching on chocolate Easter eggs is bad enough…but is that guilt doubled when we think about where these Easter Eggs have come from and who, or what, has suffered for our casual, over-indulgent consumption? It’s certainly not the Easter Bunny, I can tell you that. So, how about finding ethically sourced, fair-trade, chocolate Easter Eggs this year? It may sound like hard work, but surprisingly there are many well known brands who are committed to making sustainable chocolate, and specifically, chocolate Easter Eggs. Eggs-celent. Green & Black’s Green & Black’s essentially do…
