A Conscious Introduction to Vegan Shoes

Veganism is becoming increasingly popular – and we’re very happy about it! A common issue for vegan folk is finding good quality shoes and accessories that are free of any animal products. However, although this is something that is becoming more accessible as the lifestyle gains a bigger following, there are still issues at hand, especially for those that care about ethics and sustainability throughout the production process. As a vegan do you ever ask yourself, are vegan shoes eco-friendly? It’s important that we look further into this issue as we often can be blind-sighted by a clearly moral choice,…

A Conscious Introduction To Recycling

Recycling – it’s not always as simple as it sounds! Recycling seems like a fantastic, easy way to be more conscious, as it means you can get use out of something and then pop it in a box and it’ll get taken away to be reused another way. But this isn’t always the case, and there’s a lot of misinformation when it comes to recycling, plus information that just isn’t communicated well, and recycling can also vary depending on where you live and what your local council has set up! So we’ve put together an introductory guide to clear up…

A Conscious Introduction To Cotton

Cotton is a complicated issue. We consume so much of it in the fashion industry – cotton is used for 40% of all clothing produced globally, and it makes up 90% of all natural fibres used in the textile industry! Although many people may assume that it’s a good material simply because it’s a natural fibre, it’s a lot more complex than that. There are upsides and downsides to using cotton, from its water consumption to the fact that it can biodegrade, so it can be hard to get your head around the issue. Here at Revival Collective, we’ve put…

‘#WhoMadeMyClothes’ Quilt by Local Artist Shelley Morrow

Brighton-based artist Shelley Morrow has created an incredibly powerful testament to all the garment workers that died in the Rana Plaza collapse in 2014 that will be exhibited at The Fashion Revolution Exhibition on Thursday 28th of April. The piece has been created in the style of a patchwork quilt and has 50 panels. On each panel, 1138 clothing labels have been embroidered with red thread. These act as a symbol for every individual who died during the collapse. The red embroidery thread is representative of the blood that was shed because of our incessant hunger for fast-fashion at the…

Micro-Plastics in the Ocean

Plastic pollution in oceans is a huge threat to the marine environment. Recently, a campaign went out that showed a picture of plastic bags and a jellyfish in the ocean, demonstrating just how easy it is for animals such as the turtle to mistake a plastic bag for food. However, aside from large plastics such a bottles and bags littering the ocean, there is another lesser known pollutant that is just as fatal …. Micro plastics: What are they? Micro plastics are manufactured, solid plastic particles of less than 5mm in diameter. Cosmetics such as exfoliating products and toothpaste contain…

The Hidden Dangers of Palm Oil

Palm oil, a core ingredient in many of our favourite beauty, food and household products, has once again been wreaking havoc on the environment. Charities like The Rainforest Foundation have been warning customers not to buy products containing palm oil for years; the BBC even ran a special Panorama episode on the topic. Yet, despite attempts to raise awareness of the harmful effects of palm oil production on the planet, there seem to be no plans to give it up.  The recent massive surge in production of palm oil has lead to the mass destruction of forests in Malaysia…
